We welcome you to Salle des Fers!

2010 Season:

We meet in San Luis Obispo. Private Instruction and Small Group Lessons (for 4 to 6 individuals) are offered in Classical Fencing Techniques, Recreational Fencing, and Olympic-Style Competitive Fencing with Electrified Weapon, with all three Modern Fencing Weapons: the Foil, the Épée, and the Saber.

Instruction and Lessons are conducted on an outdoor Piste (Fencing Strip) under the canopy of an overarching California Pepper Tree and in the sunshine. The setting is adjacent a small local creek, surrounded by native plants and animals, and within 5 blocks of the Marsh Street Exit of the 101 Freeway. We meet Sundays, from noon until dark, and by appointment on other days.

With the arrival of Spring come warmth, longer days, and sunshine. Individual lessons are by appointment, and small group–4 to 6 fencers– instruction will be scheduled when a sufficient number of people make their commitment.

From time to time we schedule a "Fencing Open House," where Introductory Lessons are offered, questions are answered, and you may meet others interested in forming classes. We encourage you to consider this opportunity to meet the instructeur and fencers, current and future!

We may be reached in the following ways:

Fencing – derived from the word defense. From the time a human first picked up a stick, sharpened it, and charred the point in fire to harden–to temper–it, we have defended ourselves; at times, mistakenly.

The thrill, the adrenaline, the sense of self-mastery, and the command of our bodies, senses, and mind, manifest our Warrior Spirit, culminating in today's Sport of Fencing. When pursued in the Classical Art form, or the Modern Olympic Competitive form, we indulge ourselves in this dynamic, one-on-one form of combat – an honest encounter with our opponent.

Our bodies are developed through eye/hand coordination, independent yet coordinated movements of our limbs, balance, grace, and very vigorous movement, to the point where the only sports faster employ bullets.

Our spatial awareness, sensory acuity, and instantaneous perception and translation into Action develops our mind and spirit, enabling a healthier embrace of all our human lives must face in our all too brief lifetimes.

We seek to share these skills, igniting an inner drive to work harder, to face adversity and overcome obstacles; to succeed in any endeavor we may choose.
